As a fabric store owner, one of the questions I get asked the most is, "Where do you find the fabrics in your store?" It's a great question. And it's the most important part of my job so it's how I spend a lot of my time.
I have spent years developing relationships with top brands and manufacturers who can provide premium fabrics at good prices. Here are a few strategies I use to find the best deals on top-notch fabrics:
  1. Work with reputable brands. I have learned that it pays to work with suppliers who have a good reputation for providing high quality fabrics at reasonable prices. Thankfully, our favorite brands are willing to work with us and for that I am grateful. Our customers can be sure that they're receiving premium goods because the brands we carry have a proven track record.
  2. Shop around. I don't just stick with one supplier – I shop around and compare prices from a variety of sources to make sure I'm getting the best deal. We attend quilt conferences to see what's new. We love getting feedback from customers on brands or items they want to see in our store. This can take a bit more time, but it's worth it in the long run.
  3. Take advantage of bulk discounts. Many suppliers offer bulk discounts for larger orders, so if I know I will be placing a large order, I negotiate a bulk discount. This can save me a significant amount of money on the fabrics I need.

These may not seem ground breaking but most of the time the answer is simple. And one of my favorite things about this industry is that it's not complicated. If you prove to be someone who does business honestly, you establish credibility which naturally creates a network.

I use my network to source high-quality, premium fabrics at an affordable price. This allows me to offer my customers a great selection of fabrics at prices they can afford, while still turning a profit for my business.

It has taken time. Consistent daily actions. But my wife, Bri, & I are having fun growing this business.

Until next time when I feel the inspiration to start typing..
